GST Calculator (Inclusive & Exclusive)

Compute GST both ways: add GST to a base amount (exclusive) or extract GST from an MRP-style total (inclusive), across the 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% slabs, with the CGST/SGST split shown.

Add: GST = base × rate. Remove: GST = total × rate ÷ (100 + rate). Intra-state supplies split GST equally into CGST and SGST; inter-state supplies charge IGST at the full rate.

How it works

  • Enter the amount and pick a GST rate slab.
  • Choose 'Add GST' when your amount is the taxable value, or 'Remove GST' when your amount already includes tax.
  • The result shows taxable value, total GST, and the equal CGST + SGST split for intra-state supplies.

Where this shows up in the CA exam

Time and value of supply questions in CA Intermediate Paper 3 (Section B) and Final Paper 5 constantly require inclusive-to-exclusive conversions — the 'remove GST' formula here is the one students most often fumble under time pressure.

How do I calculate GST from an inclusive amount?

GST = inclusive amount × rate ÷ (100 + rate). For example, ₹1,180 inclusive at 18%: GST = 1180 × 18 ÷ 118 = ₹180, so the taxable value is ₹1,000.

What is the CGST and SGST split?

For an intra-state supply, the GST charge is split equally: an 18% levy becomes 9% CGST + 9% SGST. Inter-state supplies instead attract IGST at the full 18%.

Which GST rates exist in India?

The main slabs are 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, with special rates (like 3% on gold and 0.25% on rough diamonds) and cess on certain luxury and sin goods.
