Why this paper matters
This paper is the closest the course comes to your actual professional obligations as a signing auditor. The ethics portion in particular governs your entire career.
Chapter-wise weightage
Indicative distribution based on the published syllabus structure. Always confirm against the ICAI study material for your attempt.
- Standards on Auditing (advanced application)25 marks
- Professional Ethics & Code of Conduct20 marks
- Company Audit & Reporting20 marks
- Specialised & Specific Audits20 marks
- Audit of Consolidated FS & Group Audits15 marks
How to actually score it
- Every answer needs a procedure and a conclusion. Scenario questions want what the auditor should do and what opinion follows. Give both explicitly; discussion without a conclusion loses marks.
- Ethics is the most predictable block. The schedules of professional misconduct and the independence threats are finite, examinable every session and quick to revise.
- Learn reporting triggers as a decision tree. Material versus pervasive, and unable to obtain evidence versus disagreement, produce four opinion types. One diagram covers a recurring 10–15 marks.
- Specialised audits reward keyword recall. Bank, insurance, NBFC and PSU audits each have signature checkpoints. Learn five keywords per audit type rather than full chapters.
Mistakes that cost marks
- Describing the standard instead of answering what the auditor should do
- Failing to distinguish material misstatement from pervasive misstatement
- Treating ethics as general professionalism rather than the specific schedules
- Ignoring documentation requirements, which are frequently examined

Talk to usHow different is this from Intermediate Auditing?
Intermediate teaches the framework; Final tests judgement inside it. Questions present ambiguous scenarios where you must decide the procedure and the resulting opinion.
Is the ethics portion worth prioritising?
Yes. It is finite, highly predictable, quick to revise and carries substantial marks — one of the best mark-per-hour blocks at Final.
Does articleship experience show in this paper?
Clearly. Candidates who have worked on real audits write more specific, procedural answers, which is precisely what the scenario format rewards.
