Mock Paper Practice — Full Papers Under Real Exam Conditions
Knowing the syllabus and finishing the paper are different skills, and only one of them is tested on exam day. Mock paper practice runs a full-length paper under exam conditions — timed, in ICAI's structure and mark distribution — then shows you the thing a score cannot: which questions you overran, which you flagged and never came back to, and where your accuracy fell off a cliff.
The palette is the diagnosis: which questions you skipped, which you flagged and never returned to, and where the clock actually went.

How it works
- 01
Pick a paper and start the clock
Choose the level and paper. The timer runs the full duration, with the objective and subjective sections weighted the way ICAI weights them.
- 02
Work it like the real thing
Flag questions to revisit, skip and return, and move in whatever order you choose — the palette records every one of those decisions.
- 03
Get pace and accuracy separated
Two different reports. One shows what you got wrong; the other shows what the clock cost you, which is usually the larger number.
- 04
Fix the specific failure
Overran on one long question? Different fix from not knowing a chapter. The report names which one it was.
Most students fail on minutes, not on syllabus
The recurring pattern in CA results is not a student who did not know enough. It is a student who spent fifty minutes on a fourteen-mark question and left a twelve-mark question untouched. That failure is invisible in untimed practice and invisible in a score out of a hundred — it only shows up when something records how long each question actually took.
- Per-question timing, so an overrun is attributed to the question that caused it
- Attempted, flagged and never-visited tracked separately — three different problems
- Accuracy plotted across the three hours, which is where fatigue becomes visible
- A pace check during the paper, not only afterwards
Take the first one early and badly
A mock is a diagnosis, and a diagnosis is only worth having while there is still time to act on it. Taken in the final fortnight it becomes an anxiety generator. Taken at the halfway point — when the score will be poor and that is entirely the point — it tells you which of the remaining weeks to spend on coverage and which on speed.
Attempt order is a decision you can rehearse
You are not required to answer in printed order, and most students gain marks by not doing so. Mock practice is where you find out whether starting with the objective section or with your strongest long question serves you better — and you find that out on a practice paper rather than discovering it on the day.

Talk to usHow is this different from an MCQ test?
An MCQ test drills recall on a topic. A mock paper tests whether you can complete a full paper under time, in the right order, with the marks distributed the way ICAI distributes them. Both matter, but they diagnose completely different problems.
When should I take my first mock?
Around the halfway point of your preparation, and earlier if you are unsure of your pace. Expect a poor score — the value is in the diagnosis and in how many weeks remain to act on it.
How many mock papers should I sit?
Enough that finishing stops being uncertain. For most students that is four to six full papers per subject, with the last two close to the attempt. Sitting more without analysing each one properly adds very little.
Should I use ICAI's own Mock Test Papers too?
Yes, and treat those as authoritative. Download them free from icai.org for your attempt. Use this to build the timing habit and to get per-question analysis, then sit the official MTPs as the benchmark.
