Write Like ICAI — Turn What You Know Into What Gets Marked
The gap between what a student knows and what a script shows is where most marginal results are decided. Write Like ICAI takes your answer and shows the same answer in the presentation ICAI's own Suggested Answers use — with each structural element the examiner awards marks for tagged, so you can see exactly what was missing rather than being told to 'present better'.
Same conclusion, same knowledge, three more marks. The tagged elements are the entire difference.

How it works
- 01
Write your answer
Type it or photograph your handwritten script. Write it the way you would in the hall, not a tidied-up version.
- 02
See the ICAI-style version alongside
The same conclusion, restructured the way Suggested Answers present it — provision, application, conclusion, working notes.
- 03
Read the tags, not the prose
Every element that carries marks is labelled: standard cited, applied to facts, conclusion stated, working note referenced.
- 04
Rewrite once, from memory
Recognising good structure is not the same as producing it. The rewrite is the step that actually changes your script.
Presentation is not a soft skill here
In law, audit and tax, marks are distributed across stating the provision, applying it to the facts, and concluding. A correct conclusion with no stated provision routinely collects about half of what was available. In computational papers, working notes are where partial credit lives — a correct method with one arithmetic slip scores well if the steps are visible and almost nothing if only a wrong figure appears. None of this is a matter of style.
- Provision, application and conclusion shown as three separate elements
- Working notes numbered and referenced from the face of the statement
- Section and standard citations flagged where they earn a mark
- Variance directions, figure labels and the 'advise' line checked explicitly
The comparison is the teaching
Being told to structure answers better changes nothing, because the advice is not actionable. Seeing your own sentence next to the version that scores three marks more — with the three added elements labelled — is actionable, because the difference is concrete and small. Most students need this on four or five answers before the structure becomes automatic.
Learn the format ICAI actually publishes
ICAI's Suggested Answers are the clearest available statement of the presentation that earns marks, and they are free on icai.org. Read them for structure rather than for content you already know: the order of statements, the use of working notes, and how much justification a conclusion carries. This tool is a way to practise that format against your own writing, not a replacement for reading the source.

Talk to usDoes presentation really carry marks?
Yes, and disproportionately in law, audit and accounting. Format, headings, working notes and citation all carry marks independently of content, which is why two students with the same knowledge routinely score several marks apart.
Can I submit a handwritten answer?
Yes — photograph your script. Handwritten practice is worth more than typed, because the exam is handwritten and the constraints of writing by hand are part of what you are training for.
Will this make my answers longer?
Usually not much. Most missing marks come from omitted structure rather than omitted content — a stated provision and a concluding line are two sentences. Length for its own sake is not rewarded and costs you time.
How is this different from answer evaluation?
Answer evaluation tells you whether you were right and where you lost marks on a specific attempt. This focuses narrowly on presentation — the same knowledge, restructured — which is a habit you carry into every future answer rather than a correction to one.
