CA Final registration, self-paced modules and exam eligibility
Registration is straightforward. Eligibility to actually sit the examination depends on training completion, AICITSS and the self-paced modules — and those need planning years ahead.

Overview
Students often treat Final registration as an administrative step and discover late that eligibility to appear depends on several parallel requirements that take time to complete. Under the New Scheme, the self-paced online modules were added as a distinct requirement, and they are the one most frequently left too late.
When you can register
A student may register for the Final course after clearing both groups of the Intermediate examination. Registration itself is simple; the significant point is that registering does not by itself make you eligible to appear in the Final examination. Eligibility depends on completing practical training, the AICITSS courses and the self-paced modules within the conditions ICAI prescribes.
- Register after clearing both Intermediate groups
- Registration and examination eligibility are separate questions
- Plan the parallel requirements from the start of practical training
- Confirm current conditions on icai.org before assuming an attempt
The self-paced online modules
The New Scheme introduced self-paced online modules as a requirement to be completed before appearing in the Final examination. They cover corporate and economic laws, strategic cost and performance management, and a set of elective and multidisciplinary options. Because they are self-paced, they are easy to postpone — and postponing them is the most common reason a student who is otherwise ready cannot sit an attempt.
- Required before appearing in the Final examination under the New Scheme
- Include compulsory modules and a choice of electives
- Self-paced format makes them easy to defer indefinitely
- Complete them during practical training, not after it
AICITSS and practical training
The AICITSS courses — advanced information technology and management and communication skills — must be completed during the prescribed part of practical training and before appearing in the Final examination. Practical training itself must be completed, with the examination attempt falling within the window ICAI prescribes relative to that completion. Map these dates against your intended attempt as soon as training begins.
- AICITSS must be completed within the prescribed part of practical training
- Practical training completion governs which attempt you can sit
- Leave and secondment affect the completion date — track it
- Confirm the current window between training completion and attempt eligibility
Planning the attempt
Final is the level where working conditions and preparation collide most severely, because most students are simultaneously completing practical training. The realistic planning question is not which attempt you would like to sit but which attempt your training completion date, module completion and available study leave actually permit. Work that backwards, and negotiate study leave with your principal early rather than close to the attempt.
- Derive the attempt from training completion, not from preference
- Negotiate study leave months in advance, in writing where permitted
- Complete self-paced modules well before the attempt window
- Decide group strategy on available leave, not on syllabus confidence
Track these from day one of training
Track these from day one of training
- Practical training start date and projected completion date
- AICITSS scheduling within the prescribed part of training
- Self-paced module completion status for each required module
- Registration validity and revalidation date if applicable
- Study leave entitlement and the date by which it must be applied for
- The examination form window for your intended attempt

Talk to usWhat are the self-paced online modules?
They are a requirement introduced under the New Scheme, to be completed before appearing in the Final examination. They comprise compulsory modules alongside elective and multidisciplinary options. Confirm the current module list and assessment requirements on icai.org, as these have been revised since introduction.
When can I appear for the Final examination?
Eligibility depends on completing practical training, the AICITSS courses and the self-paced modules, with the attempt falling within the window ICAI prescribes relative to training completion. Because these conditions were revised under the New Scheme, verify them on icai.org rather than relying on a previous cycle's rules.
Should I attempt both Final groups together?
Base it on the study leave you can actually secure. Both groups is realistic with a substantial and protected leave period; one group is the safer choice where leave is uncertain or where practical training commitments are likely to intrude.

These guides are study and planning aids prepared by Kartavvya, which is not affiliated with ICAI. Eligibility conditions, registration windows, fees, exam frequency and applicability cut-offs are set by ICAI and change between attempts — the New Scheme of Education and Training in particular has revised several of them. Always verify the current position on icai.org and in ICAI's announcements for your attempt before acting on anything here.
