Which chapters keep coming back — and which order to revise them in.
For each paper: a chapter-by-chapter repeat strip across recent attempts, the marks each block typically carries, and a three-tier revision priority. Use it to sequence revision when time is short — never to decide what to leave out.
Revision Test Paper
A chapter-wise revision set ICAI issues before each attempt. It also states which amendments apply to that attempt — which makes it the first document to open, not the last.
Use it first, as a closed-book revision sweep.
Mock Test Paper
A full paper built to the exam's structure and mark distribution. Its value is diagnostic and it only diagnoses one thing honestly: whether you can finish in three hours.
Use it second, strictly to time.
Suggested Answers
ICAI's own model answers to a past paper — the clearest published statement of the presentation that earns marks: order, headings, working notes, citations.
Use it third, read for format rather than content.
All three are published free by ICAI on icai.org for each attempt and level. The numbering is the order that makes each one useful.
CA Foundation
2 papersPaper 1 — Accounting
CA Foundation
Six chapters have carried roughly two-thirds of the marks across recent attempts. Final accounts and partnership are effectively compulsory.
MTP analysisPaper 3 — Quantitative Aptitude
CA Foundation
A fully objective paper where the binding constraint is speed, not knowledge. Statistics carries the largest single block of marks.
CA Intermediate
4 papersPaper 1 — Advanced Accounting
CA Intermediate
Accounting Standards dominate. Consolidation and company final accounts are near-certain, and neither is optional.
MTP analysisPaper 2 — Corporate and Other Laws
CA Intermediate
A presentation paper more than a memory paper. Share capital, deposits and meetings recur; section references separate the top scripts.
RTP analysisPaper 3 — Taxation
CA Intermediate
Two half-papers with different logic. Total income computation and GST input tax credit are the anchors of each.
MTP analysisPaper 4 — Cost and Management Accounting
CA Intermediate
A paper decided by length, not difficulty. Marginal costing, standard costing and process costing recur almost without exception.
CA Final
3 papersPaper 1 — Financial Reporting
CA Final
Consolidation and the revenue, leases and financial instruments standards dominate. Depth beats breadth in this paper.
RTP analysisPaper 3 — Advanced Auditing, Assurance and Professional Ethics
CA Final
Professional ethics is asked every attempt and is the highest-return chapter in the paper. Standards on Auditing supply the rest.
MTP analysisPaper 5 — Indirect Tax Laws
CA Final
Input tax credit and place of supply anchor the GST half. Customs is smaller, finite and consistently underprepared.
Four steps that make a mock actually worth taking.
Most students read an RTP. Reading it is the least valuable thing you can do with it.
- Step — 01
Attempt closed-book
Solve the paper before reading a single line of the answer. An RTP read like a textbook teaches nothing at all.
Under time - Step — 02
Compare presentation
Check your script against the Suggested Answers for format, working notes and order — not only for whether the figures matched.
Same day - Step — 03
Log the failures
Write down the specific step that failed each time. A list of causes is a revision plan; a score is only anxiety.
Per question - Step — 04
Re-solve after a week
Redo everything you got wrong, from memory, without the solution. This pass is what converts a corrected mistake into a reliable one.

Talk to usWhat is the difference between an RTP, an MTP and Suggested Answers?
A Revision Test Paper is a chapter-wise revision set ICAI issues before each attempt, and it also flags the amendments applicable to that attempt. A Mock Test Paper is a full paper to be attempted under exam conditions. Suggested Answers are ICAI's own model answers to a past paper, and they are the clearest available guide to the presentation that earns marks.
In what order should I use them?
RTP first, as a chapter-wise revision sweep. Then the MTP, strictly to time, to find out whether you can finish. Then Suggested Answers for a past paper, read specifically for presentation rather than for content you already know.
Can I use chapter-frequency analysis to skip topics?
No, and doing so is how well-prepared students end up narrowly short. Frequency tells you what to revise first when time is limited. A chapter asked in two attempts out of five is still a full question when it appears, and there is no reliable way to know which attempt that will be.
Are RTP questions repeated in the actual exam?
Concepts and question formats recur; exact questions rarely do. The RTP's real value is that it shows the scope, the depth and the presentation style ICAI expects for that specific attempt.
Where do I download the official RTPs and MTPs?
From icai.org, free of charge, for each attempt and each level. Always work from the official version — these analysis pages are a prioritisation aid, not a substitute for the papers themselves.
Please note
These are study aids, not ICAI publications. Kartavvya is not affiliated with ICAI. Chapter-frequency patterns are indicative, compiled from publicly available past papers, Revision Test Papers and Mock Test Papers to help you prioritise revision — they are not a prediction of any future paper and should not be used to skip syllabus. Always download the official RTP, MTP and Suggested Answers from icai.org and treat those as authoritative.
